Overview
The National Public Drug Use Survey (NPDUS) is a cross-sectional study of people who use drugs engaged in syringe exchange programs in the United States. The first wave of the study was conducted between October 2016 and February 2017 at 12 programs across 10 cities in the United States.
These two-page overviews are specific to each city that participated - you can download the PDFs to share, review, or get ideas of how to do your own study!
We've included the survey instrument, templates for consent forms, and an overview of methodological considerations and lessons learned from the first survey wave. The survey is not proprietary and was created for programs and community advocates to conduct their own studies to frame the issues related to SCS.
The first wave of the NPDUS was administered across the country by staff members of syringe exchange programs who were trained remotely. We've made this training video available for your use.
